Ethiopia: UN operating in a "dangerous and complex" environment in DRC - Lacroix

The statement was made on Saturday in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, by UN Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations, Jean-Pierre Lacroix, who stressed the need to better understand the new scenario of operations.
In December 2017, 14 Blue Helmets were killed in the DRC, during an attack attributed to the Ugandan Muslim rebels of the Allied Democratic Forces.
The attack, which took place at the UN base in Semuliki in the North Kivu province, also killed at least five DRC soldiers.
Jean-Pierre Lacroix was speaking to the press, on the sidelines of a meeting between the UN Secretary-General, António Guterres and Angolan Foreign Minister, Manuel Augusto.
Concerning the holding of the elections in the DRC, Jean-Pierre Lacroix said that the primary responsibility in preparing the suffrage lies upon the authorities, political forces and people of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
