Nile Basin Nations Vows to Have Good-Faith Talks

(MENAFN) Governments from Burundi, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda met in Juba, Juba, on Sunday to mark Nile Day and reaffirm their commitment to cooperation under the Nile Basin Initiative.

The event, themed “Voice of the Nile: Community, Youth, and Women Engagement in Water Governance,” emphasized dialogue, mutual respect, and joint action to manage the river’s resources amid growing water and food demands and climate change impacts.

South Sudan’s Foreign Minister, Monday Semaya Kumba, underscored the country’s dedication to equitable sharing of Nile resources, sustainable collaboration, and respect for the rights of all member states. He highlighted plans for close coordination among Nile Basin nations to ensure equal benefits and successful cooperation within the initiative’s framework.
